Sandra Cisneros MFA Iowa
Master of Fine Arts Initiative
Does a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing still count? We can debate that later. In the mean time, here is a list of a few authors who earned one.

The Iowa Writers Workshop was the first Creative Writing Program in the nation. Cisneros writes about her experience there extensively. Besides her potent prose, she has also created many opportunities for other writers through the Macondo Foundation.
Rudolfo  Anaya MA New Mexico
Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante, MFA University of Houston
Junot Diaz MFA Cornell
Cornell is one of the few uber-elite, or older, writing programs to boast 2 Latino instructors including Helena Maria Viramontes.
Although Anaya did not earn an MFA, he did earn a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. Although this field is not directly related to writing, this goes to show that advanced degrees shape time, energy, and thought enough to influence muses.
Our own founder of Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say did not study management or HR. However, the MFA experience did facilliate his creatvity, intelligence, and verbal audacity.
